Thanks for giving us a little of your time to answer a few questions…… Firstly, I'm sure many supporters would be eager to know of any update on the stadium, regarding developments and any likely time scale. What is likely to be the next development to the ground? Hopefully the second East Stand extension is next, funding permitting at the season end, however funding is not in place yet but we are working tirelessly on it. Regarding the North and South ends, the timescale keeps slipping in line with general economic situation. We remain optimistic but currently there is no definite timescale for these. I'm not beating myself up about this at the moment. Everyone is in the same boat and it is just a question of persevering. As a shareholder myself could you tell me what plans are in place for a shareholders meeting anytime in the near future and how would you assess the financial state of the club in the present economic climate. There is none planned at present. A change in company legislation means AGM's no longer necessary. However, shareholders can contact me or any other board member on anything big or small. I'm happy we have open dialogue and therefore don't think shareholders meetings are absolutely critical. They also cost an arm and leg to facilitate which brings me smoothly on to finance. Trading conditions are, as ever difficult, we make losses year on year. These losses are underwritten by directors loans, sponsorship etc. Some of that has been planned as investment to get us where we are. However, that can't continue. This year, because of our well documented supply issues with Kooga and the economy in general the issue has been one the directors have prioritised. I've gone on record to say we now need to make the business self sustaining to continue the progress we have made. How long are the club committed to "Kooga" for playing strip and training gear? The contract expires
You recently mentioned in the press about the possibility of relinquishing the Chair in the future, is there any cause for concern regarding your commitment to the Rovers cause?
I was asked how long I was continuing. I said, "…end of season, next season, five years…who knows!?" The fact is I have done five years and if truth be known, it is as tough now as it has ever been.
Very little of the fun of being a supporter is there any longer. I suppose I'll review it again at the end of next year, as I'm sure everyone else does from time to time. This isn't just about me though. I have people to consider who work here and who I wish to remain loyal to. There are also my fellow directors to consider, at the moment there is no natural successor ready to step into the role. Whilst VC Rob Crossland is very active in the business he lives away from Hull and is far too busy (with new nipper etc.) to contemplate taking over. Most importantly though I have to consider the family and the sacrifices they put up with, fortunately they follow the team which helps!
Whose idea was those awful radio ads?
Charming! Don't they bring a tear to your eye?
I'm pretty sure your response to this question but I was asked to ask you. Will Paul Cooke's contract be renewed?
Paul has a year to go on his current deal. He still has plenty of football in him. There's a new contract to be earned between now and then.
Do you, the players or Justin read the message boards?
I can't speak for Justin because I haven't asked him. I look at the unofficial forum from time to time. I think it gives useful feedback on a whole range of club related issues good and bad, so keep it coming. I stay well away from RLFANS where the cabbages congregate and spout their dross.
Are there plans for another fans forum? Presumably something prior to the season seems the most sensible time.
Yes, I'm sure there'll be one soon enough. We do try to be accessible to supporters and like the internet forum they offer us the opportunity to obtain useful feedback.
What's with the Elephant on "Neil Hudgell Solicitors" ad boards?
It's all about remembering who to call - Elephants don't forget!!!
What is the status of Rhys Lovegrove for 2010? Is his dispensation likely to remain?
We recently received confirmation fron the RFL which states, "Rhys is classified as "Club Trained Whilst There" he will keep this classification so long as he is in continuous employment with HKR, If he joins another club he will be classed as Federation Trained. If he later rejoins HKR he will be Federation Trained."
At present things seem to be quiet on the recruitment front, are the club actively looking at signings both at home and overseas? Is there likely to be a "headline signing" on the horizon?
Maybe, maybe not!!! We aren't panicking. We want the right players in or we won't bother at all. I expect a 3-4 player turnover. How that happens will be dictated by several considerations. We may need to move a player or two out to bring players in. There's still plenty of time for that to happen. Don't forget we have done plenty of business renewing deals over the season with front line players and have had very high player turnover during the last 3 years. We now have quality and stability so can afford to be selective. We have turned down a hatful of opportunities.
How do you feel the club membership scheme has been received? Some have criticised its timing whilst others have accused the club of adding an unnecessary expense. How would you go about allaying these concerns?
The scheme has received a mixed welcome I think. I'm not sure people know what it is all about. I fully appreciate it's a lot to get over to people quickly but with time I'm convinced it will be a roaring success. It is about delivering value to fans. The initial set up costs are high but the potential benefits will soon outweigh these. I understand fans concerns and just ask they stick with us and give it time to show its worth. Although the perception in some areas is that it is about making a "quick buck" I'd refute that, any of the subscriptions raised will go towards the IT and infrastructure so at best, its cost neutral to the club.
Finally, our very own Ali G 'East Hulls Premier Paparazzi ' continues to threaten you with one of his famous quiches , do you have a preference ?
Yes, most certainly! I'm a ham and onion man.
Thanks again Mr Chairman...hopefully Ali will be able to give you some "packing up" for a Grand Final day out !!!!
